As New York City's Knitting Factory celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, the 400-capacity venue has recently made enhancements to its sound and lighting equipment.

"We just put in a brand new PA and lighting system in our main space,"
Knitting Factory GM Shay Vishawadia tells "We're a live music venue, and as such, we understand we have to provide artists -- and our patrons --with the best available equipment."

Along with the sound and lighting upgrade, the Tribeca club has installed an audio-visual content capture system that will allow for high-definition recording.

Last year, Knitting Factory Entertainment partnered with XM Satellite Radio for exclusive live recordings at the club, which will be heard weekly on XMU starting later this winter. "We've already done seven or eight recordings," Vishawadia says, declining to name specific artists. "We don't know what they're going to launch off with yet."

Meanwhile, as part of its 20th anniversary celebration, the Knitting Factory will host about seven shows per month. Upcoming concerts at the club include appearances from Jonathan Richman (Feb. 1-4), Slick Rick (Feb. 9), the Skatalites (Feb. 23), Trans Am (Feb. 24), Thunderbirds Are Now! (March 1) and Halifax (March 30).
