Rums of Puerto Rico Brings First 'Taste of Rum Tour,' feat. DJ DNGR GRDN, to U.S. Supper and Salsa Clubs

“Where there’s rum, there’s always music,” says Rums of Puerto Rico director Bárbara Vélez.
Rums of Puerto Rico will bring its first Taste of Rum Tour to Latin supper and salsa clubs in U.S. cities in November. The dates will feature music by DJ DNGR GRDN, a Puerto Rican DJ and drummer who has played with Wisin & Yandel, Daddy Yankee and other leading reggaeton artists. Local bands from each city will also perform.
“Where there’s rum, there’s always music,” Rums of Puerto Rico Director Bárbara Vélez told Rums of Puerto Rico will also release a holiday tropical music CD, the latest in an ongoing series of promotional giveaway recordings.
The Taste of Rum tour starts Nov. 20 at Washington, D.C.’s Café Citron, and continues Nov. 21 at Cuba Libre in Philadelphia, Nov. 22 at New York’s S.O.B.’s, and Nov. 23 at Mojitos in Boston.
Rums of Puerto Rico is a government program created to promote Puerto Rican rum in the United States. According to the organization, over 77% percent of rum consumed in the U.S. is from the island; the top-selling spirit in this country overall is Puerto Rico’s Bacardi. Other leading brands -- Serralles, Ron del Barrilito, Ron Reserva Añejo, Ron Cañita -- and two new brands, Black Roberts and Pitorro, are represented by Rums of Puerto Rico.
Since 2009, Rums of Puerto Rico has sponsored an annual Taste of Rum Festival in San Juan.
“Everything is about the food, the drinks and the music,” Vélez says. “Its always fun when music and rum get together.”
Vélez says the Taste of Rum Tour will be an ongoing event, with plans to expand the tour to other major U.S. markets next year. The tour is produced by Federico Hernandez for Rums of Puerto Rico and co-sponsored by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.
