You never quite know what’s going to come out of the Billboard Latin Music Conference. Yesterday, for example, the Spanish singer/songwriter Natalia Jimenez was discussing her career at Billboard's annual Most Influential Women in Latin Music Luncheon when suddenly she broke into song and began channeling the late, great. Janis Joplin (see video below). Jimenez prefaced her mini-performance with a tale of her teen years in Madrid and a music competition which her eight-piece band backed out of. So, on the day of the show she got on her motorbike with her guitar and headed to the venue and performed a short set inspired by Joplin. Jimenez, it’s worth noting, was a hit and took home first place in the contest.
