Groove Mobile, the Massachusetts-based international mobile-music service provider, has teamed with Universal Music U.K. to build and operate an off-portal mobile music store.

The partnership, unveiled today (Jan. 22) during Midem, will allow British mobile phone users on any U.K. wireless carrier to access full track downloads from the music major's catalog. Pricing will be announced at a later date, according to a spokesman.

After a mobile phone user sends an SMS code, a link is issued to the phone which contains links to download full tracks directly to the handsets. The SMS short codes will be sent directly to artists' online stores, and will be handled by Groove Mobile.

The Universal Music U.K. Music Store's offering will include full-track downloads from the likes of Scissor Sisters, the Killers, James Morrison and Keane.

"Groove Mobile shares our commitment to driving the international digital music business forward through off-portal innovations that deliver mobile music to larger audiences," comments Rob Wells, senior VP, digital, for Universal Music Group International, in a statement.

Groove Mobile has already established its business in the U.K. through separate agreements to power 3MusicStore and the Orange Music Player.
