Universal Music Netherlands has appointed Norbert Plantinga to be its new managing director.

Plantinga, who reports to UM Netherlands president/CEO Kees van der Hoeven, begins his new position from June 1 and will be based in Baarn.

The 34-year-old Dutch native was previously GM of EMI Music Netherlands. He has also held positions at Universal Music Group International’s London headquarters.

Additionally, he worked for Sony Music International in New York and the Netherlands before Sony merged with BMG.

"Norbert has proven himself to be one of this country's most talented, versatile music executives, with the added virtue of international experience," said van der Hoeven in a statement.

Plantinga’s appointment comes after restructuring at Universal’s Netherlands office led to the departure of 32-year vet Dries van der Schuyt, the Netherlands-based managing director of Universal International (Billboard.biz March 28, 2007) and Stef Collignon, managing director of Universal Music Netherlands.
