The seventh Diesel-U-Music Awards will take place Oct. 3 at London music venue Koko.

The international contest, which gives unsigned acts live and recorded-music opportunities, covers three music genres: electronic/dance, rock/indie, and urban/hip-hop.

The winners, one from each genre, will be unveiled at the awards events. Prize-winners will play live in the local markets and tours, and at the awards finale itself.

The gala which will be televised by yet-to-be-announced international music and youth TV networks.

The competition kicked off when 5,000 tracks were submitted in May to a jury comprising industry experts, A&R executives, and former Diesel U Music winners.

The jury has already selected a shortlist of 30 finalists from the United Kingdom, United States, France, Japan, Brazil, Belgium, Sweden and Canada.

The general public can also cast their selections for the public vote award by downloading and listening to the 30 finalists' tracks on the Web site for main sponsor Diesel, the jeans manufacturer.

U.K. nominees from each genre category include Get Shakes (electronic/dance) from the Isle of Wight; The Steers (indie/rock) from Cardiff; and London-born Stefan Abingdon (urban/hop-hop).

Among the U.S. finalists are Milwaukee-based the Glamour (electronic/dance); the Features (rock/indie), of Nashville; and SouthUNoyz (urban/hop-hop), with band members from Texas, Georgia, New Orleans, and Mississippi.

Contenders from Brazil are electronic band !Marcelo B and rock act Projeto LAB.

PIAS, the Belgium-based independent label group, is among the event's co-sponsors.
