U.K. digital media production and distribution firm New Stream Media has poached Matt Cockett, the head of music at British telecoms giant O2, to lead its commerical team.

In his new role as commercial director, effective from Nov. 19, Cockett will be tasked with forging contracts with content owners, distribution platforms and brands.

Having struck an agreement to produce exclusive digital content from London venue The O2 arena and its sister venue indigO2, NSM is eyeing-up opportunities to produce and distribute content for a range of brand, record labels and media businesses.

"With Matt coming on board we are combining our extensive backgrounds with mobile and online giants O2 and AOL," comments NSM founder and managing director Abigail Hemingway, in a statement.

"It means we understand how to make content work harder across different platforms and deliver wider distribution," she adds, "especially as portable video devices become commonplace, and high quality, device-optimised content is needed."

Since opening for business in July, NSM has recorded exclusive live performances at The O2 featuring the likes of Elton John, Keane and Sugababes. Other projects have included sessions with K.T. Tunstall, James Blunt, the Enemy and Hard-Fi.
