Hip hop star Ludacris and soul singer Akon will perform Nov. 15 at an exclusive concert in Dubai, which will form part of the launch celebrations for MTV's new Arabic entertainment and lifestyle channel.

The concert, which will also feature a performance from Lebanese-born, UAE-raised R&B artist Karl Wolf and other local urban acts, will be broadcast on Nov. 17, when MTV Arabia goes live.

As previously reported, the satellite-delivered service will showcase the region's rising hip hop scene, and will program a 60/40 blend of international and Arabic music videos, with a blend of international and local productions.

"Having major hip hop talent like Ludacris come to the region for the first time symbolises that Arabic hip hop has arrived on the global scene through MTV," comments Patrick Samaha, MTV Arabia's GM, in a statement issued today.

MTV has established the new channel through a long-term licensing partnership between MTV Networks International and TECOM Investments plus its media unit, Arab Media Group (AMG).
