Close to $4 million was raised at a June 1 Hong Kong benefit concert for victims of the devastating earthquake that struck China's Sichuan Province on May 12.

According to media reports, about 10,000 people attended the eight-hour performance at the Pop TV Arena in West Kowloon. Taiwanese male vocalist Jay Chou, supermodel Lin Chi-ling and actress Shu Qi -- who helped staff a telephone hotline -- joined hundreds of other celebrities from Hong Kong and mainland China in singing upbeat tunes such as "We Are the World" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

"I believe if we work hard, we can overcome any disaster," Jackie Chan was quoted as telling the audience.

The concert began with a moment of silence at 2:28 p.m., the exact moment when the quake struck.
