The decision by the Hong Kong divisions of EMI, Sony BMG, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group to withdraw from the IFPI Hong Kong Group is a "purely local" matter, says Hong Kong-based IFPI regional director Mayseey Leong.

She says the move will not affect the IFPI's ongoing legal actions against Web sites Yahoo China and Baidu, which provide "deep links" to other sites offering unauthorized music downloads.

The Hong Kong divisions of the four majors intend to form a new organization to represent their interests in Hong Kong.

A statement says the decision "in no way reflects on the membership of EMI Group, Sony BMG, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group internationally of IFPI, which will continue to represent the interests of record companies, large and small, worldwide."
