David Kines, senior VP in charge of Canada's Much MTV Group, has confirmed his resignation.

Kines, who was based in Toronto, said he will step down effective Oct. 3. Kines took over both MuchMusic and MTV Canada following CTVglobemedia Inc.'s takeover of Chum Ltd. last year. He had been involved at Chum and MuchMusic for a quarter century.

"I started at The NewMusic almost 25 years ago and it's been non-stop challenges and fun ever since," he said in a note to staff, adding, "It has been a privilege to have worked as part of an amazing team to create, build and nurture some of the most successful and best-loved brands in television and new media. You should be proud of all you've accomplished, and excited for what the future holds."

In a press statement, Susanne Boyce, president of creative, content and channels for CTV, applauded Kines' dedication to the music stations.

"David Kines has always made it his mission to engage the viewers, stay at the leading edge of audience interaction, and embrace industry innovations," she said. "We are grateful for his contribution during the transition period as these high profile brands were incorporated into the CTV family."

The Much MTV Group comprises eight broadcast channels aimed at a young audience, including MTV in Canada and MuchMusic, as well as online video players and mobile content.
