The live streaming of the sold-out Oct. 13 concert by country-rock act Calexico at the Ancienne Belgique (AB) venue marks the launch of the concert hall's upgraded Web site.

The expanded service includes more information, concert previews and reviews, as well as ABtv, which will feature exclusive backstage footage, sessions and concerts.

ABtv features on and has an "on demand" archive of more than 250 concerts of mostly Belgian bands.

"The idea here is to create a promotional platform for domestic talent," says David Zegers, director of communication and development at Ancienne Belgique.

ABtv features HD-quality live streams, premiered with the Calexico show, and makes AB the first Belgian venue to include this type of footage.

With the additional AB Sessions, artists that play either the 2,000 capacity venue or the 250-seater AB Club are asked to perform one or two songs.

"Just one camera, six microphones and a light switch," says Zegers. "The artist comes in, puts the light on, plays his song, switches off the light and leaves. Our engineers ask artists to play right after the sound check and before dinner. With over 300 concert dates per year, the AB Sessions will guarantee hours of absolutely exclusive content on ABtv."

The first artist to perform a session was Stef Kamil Carlens of Belgian rock act Zita Swoon, followed by Steve Wynn (formerly of alternative act the Dream Syndicate) and the Dragon Bridge Orchestra.
