U.K. act the Specials are reforming for a spring 2009 eight-date U.K. tour.

The Coventry band split in 1981, following two albums and eight top ten singles for their ‘2-tone’ sound, which combined punk and ska. They scored two number one singles with “Too Much Too Young” and “Ghost Town.”

The band was signed to 2 Tone/Chrysalis, later bought out by EMI, who released “The Best Of” by the Specials in March 2008.

Newcastle Academy will host the first night of the tour on April 22. It continues at Sheffield Academy (April 23), Birmingham Academy (April 25 and 26), Glasgow Academy (April 28), Manchester Apollo (May 3) and London Brixton Academy (May 6 and 7). The tour was booked by X-Ray and the promoter is Metropolis Music.

The line-up for the reformation does not include founder member Jerry Dammers.
