Universal Music U.K. commercial director Brian Rose has been promoted to the newly-created position of managing director, Commercial Division at the London-based major.

The executive starts his new post with immediate effect. It sees him taking responsibility for all digital and mobile sales for Universal Music U.K. Rose's latest promotion comes ahead of a restructuring of Universal U.K.'s sales division, due to take effect April 1.

Commenting on the promotion, Universal Music U.K. chairman/CEO David Joseph says: "Brian's dynamism and strategy have already made a huge contribution to Universal Music. His new role reflects that, as well as the fact digital is no longer an extension of our business but at the centre of it."

Rose joined Universal Music U.K. as group sales director in August 2003. In January 2006 he was promoted to commercial director, putting him in charge of the company's Catalogue and Market Research & Insight divisions as well as third party labels distribution, Universal Music's Irish business and, most recently, merchandising arm Bravado.

In his new role, Rose will work closely with Universal Music U.K. head of digital Beth Appleton on developing the company's digital business, which the company says generated sales of more than 30 million downloads in 2008. Both Rose and Appleton report to Joseph.
