Canadian Music Week has announced a significant year-on-year drop in attendance at its conference and music festival, which ran March 11-14 in Toronto.

Attendance figures for delegates were well down, with the current difficult economic climate playing its part. Organizers say there were more than 1,700 delegates, compared to more than 3,000 last year.

However, around 600 acts representing 21 countries played at more than 50 venues at the event last month, compared to 550 acts in 2008.
