Germany, Hungary and Switzerland have become the latest territories to launch the international high-definition service from MTV Networks International (MTVNI), MTVNHD.

The service will be hosted by Deutsche Telekom in Germany, Hello HD in Hungary and Quickline in Switzerland.

This month, U.K. cable operator Virgin Media and Russian DTH platform NTV Plus will also launch the service, adding to the channel's existing distribution in the U.K. and Ireland (Sky) and Russia (Platforma).

MTVNHD launched in September 2008 and the addition of Germany, Hungary and Switzerland brings the number of countries where it is now available to 21. The network plans to expand to another eight markets -- Austria, Brazil, Croatia, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Spain -- by the year's end.

It is MTVNI's first international high-definition service dedicated to music and children's programming, and features original productions, third-party programs and material from MTV's library. This includes shows such as MTV Essentials, Chart Blast and MTV Top 20, live broadcasts from music festivals and MTV World Stage concerts, and hit Nickelodeon shows like SpongeBob SquarePants.

MTVNHD is operated by MTVNI's Emerging Markets Group, which produces and broadcasts the channel from its Warsaw hub. MTVNI is a unit of Viacom Inc.
