U.K. entertainer Chris Sievey has died aged 54 after battling cancer.

The Manchester-based musician and comedian was best known for the cult comedy creation Frank Sidebottom. The character, adorned with an over-sized papier-mache head, was portrayed as an aspiring songwriter and had his own TV show in the 1990s.

Sievey continued to perform and release albums and singles as Frank Sidebottom. He had just released the World Cup spoof single "Three Shirts on My Line" and a web campaign is aiming to get the track to the top of the charts and raise money for Cancer Research. Organizers of the campaign are set to service the track to digital stores including Amazon.co.uk and iTunes.

Sievey was was previously in punk band the Freshies. He died June 21.
