The weekly show will dig up the stories behind entertainment industry successes.
As media companies continue to invest in podcasts, iHeartMedia chairman and CEO Bob Pittman is launching his own.
Pittman's first-ever podcast, Math & Magic: Stories From the Frontiers of Marketing, will debut May 14 with two episodes on the iHeartPodcast Network. On each episode, Pittman will interview disruptors across the media and entertainment industries, digging for the stories behind their marketing, creative and business successes.
First in the hot seat: Maurice Levy, the longtime CEO of Publicis Groupe who expanded the French agency into a global advertising and communications leader; followed by Scooter Braun, the multi-hyphenate entertainment exec behind the careers of Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and more. Later episodes, airing each Tuesday, include sit-downs with the likes of former 20th Century Fox Film head of media Julie Rieger, Shaggy, former MTV Networks CEO Judy McGrath, NPR CEO Jarl Mohn and more.
"I’ve been fortunate in my career to be at the forefront of the cable TV, internet and audio revolutions, and I’ve been part of -- and heard -- so many stories that are keys to breakout successes,” said Pittman, an MTV co-founder who has also headed up Time Warner Enterprises. “This podcast will be about sharing those stories through the people who have lived them -- and sometimes it’s just eavesdropping on old friends reminiscing about how things really happened.”
The news comes after iHeartMedia filed for an IPO last month, listing podcasts as priority in their growth plan. iHeartRadio acquired podcast content company Stuff Media last September, and it's not the only media giant riding the podcast wave -- Spotify recently acquired podcasting firms Parcast, Anchor and Gimlet, while SiriusXM has unveiled plans to bring original podcasts to Pandora.
In January, Pittman along with iHeartMedia president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer Rich Bressler extended their contracts by four years.
"Bob Pittman is a media visionary unlike any other going all the way back to his creation of MTV, and his discussions with the brightest minds in the industry are riveting," adds iHeartPodcast Network president Conal Byrne. "Whether you’re figuring out your career path, starting a business, looking to change the world -- or just want to hear interesting conversations -- Math & Magic is a must-listen. Bob’s interview style will make you feel like you’re right there in the room soaking up secrets from some of the biggest innovators and disruptors of our time."
