SoundCloud expanded its subscription service SoundCloud Go to the United Kingdom and Ireland on Monday (May 2).
The streaming service's expansion to the British Isles marks the company's first international foray with a paid model outside of the United States, where it launched Go in March.
The service is available now for £9.99 and €9.99 per month respectively, with a 30 day free trial. As with the U.S. service, Go is ad free, allows listening offline, caches usefully and has nearly 100 million more tracks than Spotify.
"We received an incredible response from our community of creators and listeners alike with the launch of SoundCloud Go in the US earlier this year, and we're excited to expand our offering to our listeners in the UK & Ireland," Alexander Ljung, SoundCloud Founder and CEO, said in a statement. "Creators are, and always have been, at the core of everything we do at SoundCloud. And it's through this monetisation of the platform, which also includes the introduction of ads to the free service, that we will eventually enable them all to be paid for the work they share with the world."
In April, SoundCloud and Sony/ATV reached a "multi-territory agreement" licensing deal in Europe -- a big step in SoundCloud's international growth with the the world's largest music publishing company by market share.
Monday also marked the beginning of SoundCloud adding audio advertisements to its standard free service.
