North Carolina's annual Moogfest is more than just a bunch of artists doing their things on stage. It's an educational opportunity to explore and experiment with some of the wildest and most daring minds in electronic music.
"Moogfest celebrates the artist in all forms,” says Emmy Parker, Brand Director of Moog Music Inc and Co-Creative Director of Moogfest, in an emailed statement. “The artist as teacher, the artist as performer, the artist as thought-leader — we believe the beauty of artistic identity is that it is boundless, and through music and technology, the artist can create the future.”
In 2017, Moogfest returns to Durham, N.C., May 18 to the 21, for four days of intimate performances, workshops, talks, and demonstrations. The day will be filled with rare programming including a masterclass conversation with Detroit techno pioneer Derrick May, workshops with Stones Throw/Leaving Records label head Peanut Butter Wolf, as well conferences with Flying Lotus, Animal Collective, and much more. About 80 percent of artists on the lineup will participate in some diurnal activity. There will be art installations, classes for children and adults, sleep concerts, a tribute to musicians lost in 2016 by Gotye and Peanut Butter Wolf, and more.
Future Sound night programming also includes performances by Simian Mobile Disco, 808 State, Jessy Lanza, Princess Nokia, and about 150 more. Check the lineup below, provided exclusively to Billboard Dance, and head over to moogfest.com.
