Danae Ringelmann, co-founder and chief development officer of crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, will be the first keynote speaker for the annual music industry tradeshow Midem 2015, organizer Reed MIDEM announced Thursday.
As part of the Midem Talks conference sessions, Ringelmann will talk on how crowdfunding offers a viable source of funding for innovative technologies and new ideas within the creative industries, specifically music.
"Since 2008, Indiegogo has empowered thousands of artists and musicians to amplify their audiences and raise more money for their projects than they could ever do on their own or elsewhere," said Ringelmann in a statement. "Indiegogo's open and global platform is now an engine that powerfully connects visionary creatives, technology pioneers and innovative philanthropies to the people who are most passionate about bringing their ideas to life."
The Indiegogo platform founded by Ringelmann, Slava Rubin and Eric Schell in 2008, is the world's most used crowdfunding service, having hosted more than 200,000 campaigns and distributing millions of dollars every week. As well, over the past two years, the company has grown more than 1,000 percent.
"As a powerful tool to unlock innovation, crowdfunding platforms like Indiegogo are offering new possibilities for artists and music industry creatives alike," said Midem director Bruno Crolot in a statement. "We are delighted to announce Danae Ringelmann as the first keynote in what promises to be another rich line-up of Midem Talks speakers."
The Midem Talks sessions are dedicated to featured industry leaders, covering key subjects facing the current music business. Further speakers will be announced soon.
Midem takes place in Cannes, France, and will run June 5-8 in 2015.
