Justin Timberlake Hits No. 1 for First Time on Social 50 Chart

Move over Bieber, there's a new Justin in town (again). Concurrent with the release of Justin Timberlake's first album in 6 years, "The 20/20 Experience," the pop star has propelled to the No. 1 position on Billboard's Social 50 chart for the first time.

He first broke the top 10 of the Social 50 the charting week ending on Feb. 23 thanks to the VEVO debut of his video for "Suit and Tie."

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist pageviews, song plays and reactions.

The Tuesday (March 19) Timberlake dropped "20/20 Experience," he also released the official music video for "Mirrors," the album's second single. In the week that followed, the video received over 10 million views which contributed in part to the over 19.9 million total views counted towards Timberlake's Social 50 ranking for the week.

A 2.7% rise in reaction/engagement on Facebook led to the addition of over 270,000 new fans on the platform (up 58% over the previous week). Timberlake also added 328,000 followers on Twitter (up 7%).

Miley's "WOP": Florida-based hip-hop artist J. Dash's single "WOP" was vaulted from obscurity and went viral with the help of Miley Cyrus last Thursday, March 21. The latter uploaded a video of her twerkin' to the song on Facebook, and soon following, celebrities such as Pharrell, Lebron James, Amber Rose and will.i.am began socially spreading the video clip, causing Cyrus to re-enter the Social 50 tally at No. 26.

Miley's twerkin' video, uploaded directly to Facebook rather than a video sharing site like YouTube, has over 49,000 likes to date. The rise in buzz is evident in the 249% growth in weekly Facebook reaction, which translated into over 168,500 new fans on the platform (an astounding 4,000% increase over the previous week). Also adding to her overall online audience was 91,000 new Twitter followers (up 112%).

The success of the video subsequently caused J. Dash's "WOP" to debut at No. 82 on the Hot 100.

A Grande Re-entry: Former "Victorious" co-star Ariana Grande re-enters the Social 50 tally at No. 40, after releasing a new single with rapper Mac Miller entitled "The Way." The duo has collaborated in the past, albeit under Miller's gentler piano playing alter ego, Larry Lovestein, on the Christmas classic "Baby It's Cold Outside."

Grande's re-entry is sparked by the addition of 230,000 new fans overall (up 41%). The teaser for "The Way's" official video, which debuted a week ago, has accumulated over 600,000 views to date. The official video, which recently debuted, is expected to contribute to Ariana's rise in the tally next week.

Back in the top 10, after Bieber's 1-2 tumble, we have Rihanna who remains at No. 3 as Taylor Swift (No. 4) switches places with One Direction (No. 5). Beyonce makes a minor jump into the top 10 (11-6), while Lil Wayne slides a few ranks in the tally (2-7). Bruno Mars falls (7-9) below Britney Spears who remains at No. 8, and Eminem dips (9-10) to bring up the rear.
