Chicago-based NuFace Entertainment is launching a fee-based, interactive radio program that will allow listeners to download new singles prior to release. The NuFace "Digital Download Hour" will feature unreleased tracks from major and independent labels.

After the tracks are aired, listeners will be able to purchase the singles via the station's Web site using prepaid digital cards. These cards, to be made available in increments of $5, $10 and $20, will be sold at local retail outlets. A price-point for individual tracks has not been set.

Crawford Broadcasting will inaugurate the program May 16 on its Chicago flagship, WPWX (Power 92). The R&B/hip-hop outlet is one of 30 stations in the Crawford chain. The show will air 11 p.m. to midnight on Sunday nights. Rap legend Doug E. Fresh and DJ Hollywood will co-host the "Digital Download Hour."

The digital distribution cards will be given away at Power 92's Spring Jam concert this month. Additionally, the cards will be distributed this spring through national and regional magazine ad inserts. NuFace hopes to sell sponsorship space on the cards, and use them as a promotional add-on for other products.

NuFace CEO Rita Lee says the company plans on taking the program nationwide, encompassing all music genres.
