French collection society SPPF has struck a digital distribution agreement on behalf of its independent label members with OD2.

French collection society SPPF has struck a digital distribution agreement on behalf of its independent label members with OD2.

OD2 has online retail partnerships in France with Fnac, MSN and MTV.

"Assuring independents' prominence on the Internet is one of OD2's primary objectives," says OD2 France GM Stanislas Hintzy. "This agreement will allow the greatest possible number of French independents to benefit from Europe's leading digital distribution channel."

Jérome Roger, GM of SPPF and independent labels' body UPFI, adds, "The more we sign this type of agreement with e-tailers, the more independent producers take the decision of putting their catalogs online."

SPPF is currently in talks for the use of its members' content on the planned Sony Connect and Fnac's revamped download service fnacmusic.com.

The OD2 agreement follows digital distribution accords SPPF struck last year with E-Compil, the Universal Music France-owned download site, and Virgin Megastores.
