BMG Ricordi in Italy has signed an agreement with Paris-based mobile music content provider Musiwave for the use of ringback tones.

Under the agreement, Musiwave customers –- which include 30 mobile operators -- will be able to play callers a personalized ringtone, as opposed to the normal 'busy' signal, when their lines are engaged. BMG Ricordi will make its catalog available for the service.

"We have high hopes for the Italian market, which is both receptive and dynamic,” says BMG Ricordi business-development director Andrea Rosi in a statement.

Musiwave distributes its services in 17 markets.

In other Italian news, Omar Pedrini, the 37-year-old singer who was admitted to hospital for emergency heart surgery on June 8, has been sent home. In a statement, Pedrini says: "I am a lucky man and, after a running-in period, I hope to resume my life as an artist next year."
