Entertainment giant dives into market.

Clear Channel Entertainment (CCE) will be aggressively entering the DVD market this year.

Upcoming projects include a documentary about military aviation group the Blue Angels, expected in the fourth quarter. An eight-title DVD deal involving Broadway shows is currently being negotiated.

CCE will be working with distribution partners from both the major studios and independent labels. Announcements are expected in the next few weeks.

CCE hopes to take advantage of the 26,000 shows it puts on a year to secure DVD deals. It also hopes to create how-to videos featuring some of the 1,000 athletes it represents. Most projects are expected to involve music, theater, sports or documentaries.

Steve Sterling, senior VP of CCE TV, the division which handles home video, says he expects the company to have 40-50 titles in its DVD pipeline by this time next year.

Sterling also says there are numerous promotional opportunities available for CCE's DVD projects.

"We could offer $2-off coupons for a DVD with a ticket sale. We could promote DVDs with screens at amphitheatres. These things will happen this year."

Next year, CCE will be planning the 100th anniversary celebration of Las Vegas the weekend of July 4. The event will include concerts at various locations on the Las Vegas Strip. The event is expected to generate DVD deals.
