The South African music industry's inaugural united conference will take place July 21-23 at the Sandton Convention Center, Johannesburg.

The Moshito '04 conference will examine three key issues affecting the local industry. Discussions will focus on ways to penetrate the global music market, solutions to music piracy and social welfare for musicians.

Moshito chair Nick Motsatse describes the conference as "the first step towards achieving unity on a number of challenges facing the music industry".

Dr Z. Pallo Jordan, the newly-appointed minister of arts and culture, will speak on the role the music industry will play during his five-year tenure. The department of arts and culture is the chief partner of this year's event.

According to organizers, subsequent conferences will encourage participation from the rest of the African continent.
