Tewksbury, Mass.-based digital media company Avid Technology, Inc., the parent company of digital audio workstation manufacturer Digidesign, has reported record second-quarter revenues and net income.

The company reports revenues for the three months ended June 30 of $139.9 million, which represents a 23.3% increase over the corresponding quarter in 2003. Net income for the quarter was $15.5 million, nearly double the $7.8 million Avid reported for the same period a year ago.

Net income for the six months ended June 30 was $30.2 million, on revenues of $267.3 million. This compares to net income of $13.3 million on revenues of $225.5 million for the first half of 2003.

Avid's audio-segment revenues increased 21% year over year, according to president/CEO David Krall. He says this is due in part to initial shipments of Digidesign's D-Control work surface, part of the ICON console the manufacturer introduced in April at the National Assn. of Broadcasters convention. D-Control and ICON (Integrated Console) are tactile work surfaces for Digidesign's Pro Tools audio recording, editing and mixing application.

Avid's video-segment revenues grew 25% year over year, Krall added.
