More than 4.1 million DVD copies of “The Passion of the Christ” were sold on its first day of sale, according to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
The sales are swift, although nowhere near the first-day record-holder, “Finding Nemo” (Buena Vista Home Entertainment), which moved 8 million copies upon its debut last November.
Fox also reports that consumers, on average, purchased 1.8 copies of “Passion.” The studio claims this is the first time so many consumers bought multiple copies of a DVD on its release date.
“Passion,” which grossed more than $370 million at the box office, was released Tuesday (Aug. 31). The DVD retails for $29.98 and does not contain extra features. “Passion” is also available on VHS for $24.98.
