After initially pulling the plug on all of his dates for the rest of the year due to respiratory problems, Merle Haggard has decided to move forward with three Texas shows in early October.

The lynchpin date is a Dallas booking Oct. 2 at the Cattle Baron's Ball, a benefit for the American Cancer Society that also has Willie Nelson on the bill. "Even though he doesn't feel very well, Merle felt a commitment to the American Cancer Society and Willie, so he decided to go ahead and play that date," says Bobby Roberts, president of the Bobby Roberts Co., Haggard's booking agency. "And since he already would have his band in that part of the country, he will play San Antonio on Oct. 1 and Paris, Texas, on Oct. 3."

These will likely be the last Haggard dates of the year, Roberts says. The country legend has scrapped shows in Arkansas and New Mexico.
