Italian law enforcement officers arrested 15 individuals during a series of raids on piracy and drug operations in Sardinia, Oct. 16-17.
Large quantities of cocaine, hashish, crack and several thousand illicit CDs and DVDs were seized, according to Enzo Mazza, president of Italy's anti-piracy organization FPM.
"Events like this prove what we have known along, namely that there is a close link between musical piracy and organized crime," Mazza tells Billboard.biz.
The 70 raids, which involved aerial and canine units, took place mainly in the Island's Cagliari, Nuoro and Sassari provinces. In total, 350 Carabinieri officers were involved in the busts.
