EMI Music has recruited Adam Klein to the key strategic position as executive VP of strategy and business development. Based in London, Klein will assume various responsibilities from EMI Group executive VP John Rose, who has left the company after almost three years' service.

Reporting to EMI Music's chairman/CEO Alain Levy and vice chairman David Munns, Klein is responsible for helping define the major's global strategy and business development activities. His duties include leading EMI's digital technology developments, content protection activities and consumer research; he will also be involved with developing strategic commercial relationships.

"His skills and experience will be invaluable as we continue to develop EMI's business and long term strategy," comments Levy on the appointment.

Klein joins from MTV Networks in New York where he was advisor to the then-chairman/CEO Tom Freston on overall strategy and business development.

Prior to joining MTV in 2001, he was president/COO of online search-engine firm Ask Jeeves Inc.

Meanwhile, Rose has returned to the consulting industry as partner in the New York office of Boston Consulting Group. Rose joined EMI in December 2001 as one of the first senior appointments under the Levy/Munns reign. At the time, EMI described its recruit as "one of the best brains in the consulting business," having carved out a distinguished career with management consulting firm McKinsey and Co.
