Michael Karnstedt has been promoted to the post of chairman of Peermusic's European group. He served for the past 13 years as European president for the independent publishing company.

Michael Karnstedt has been promoted to chairman of peermusic's European group. He has served for 13 years as European president of the independent publishing company.

In his new role, he will "focus on strategic initiatives within the European region," according to a statement. He continues to be based in Hamburg, Germany, and reporting to San Francisco-based peermusic CEO Ralph Peer. Karnstedt joined the German affiliate in 1966.

"In his role as chairman, peermusic will continue to benefit from Michael's experience, skill and stature as we move into a new era of music publishing," says Peer.

Karnstedt also serves as a board member of German collecting society GEMA and as treasurer of the German Music Publishers Assn. (DMV), for which he also acts as chairman of the digitial body Soundcarrier Committee. He is also a board member of the International Confederation of Music Publishers.
