George Levendis, managing director at Greek independent label Heaven Music, has resigned, Billboard.biz has learned. Sources say the Athens-based executive will assume a role at Sony BMG's global marketing division in New York. His successor at Heaven is expected to be unveiled tomorrow (Feb. 10).

A former senior VP international marketing at Arista Records in New York and managing director of BMG Greece, Levendis stepped in as Heaven MD three years ago, turning the new label into a creative force during a difficult time for the local recording industry.

One of his major achievements has been breaking Greek pop star Despina Vandi internationally. Vandi's "Gia" (Ultra) peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Radio Dance Airplay chart on Jan. 31.

Heaven is part of the Antenna Group, which has interests in radio, television and publishing.
