The Writers' Guild of America West formally initiated an arbitration against its sister union WGA East on April 18.

(The Hollywood Reporter) -- The Writers' Guild of America West formally initiated an arbitration against its sister union WGA East on April 18.

By the action, it was following through on a threat made the prior week after the two sides failed to mediate a dispute.

The fight over terms of their affiliation agreement and potentially more than $1 million in dues money will now go to binding arbitration unless the two sides can resolve it internally.

In putting the East on notice, leaders in the West still said they hoped to resolve their differences, potentially at a series of scheduled meetings over the next two months.
