Newest deal expands catalog by 20%.
Indie music distribution specialist The Orchard is partnering with ECD Hong Kong to significantly expand the company’s reach into China.
The deal gives the Orchard access to EDC’s catalog of over 100,000 songs of Chinese repertoire from a broad selection of Chinese Hip Hop, Rap, Rock and cultural music acts. The Orchard will sell the content through its network of online retail partners, including iTunes, eMusic, Napster, MSN, MusicMatch, Real/Rhapsody and Yahoo!
The Orchard and ECD -- along with Asia Markets Development Limited (AMDL), an existing partner of the Orchard’s in Hong Kong -- will work together to aggregate content from the region and to market and promote it abroad to Chinese nationals and non-traditional customers of the repertoire.
Additionally, the companies will work to sell the Orchard’s existing catalogue through download and mobile services across the Greater China region.
The deal increases the Orchard’s catalog by 20%, bringing the number of tracks in its catalogue to 600,000, and is part of a recent string of deals the distributor has made, including ones in Europe and South America.
