Vancouver Megastore will re-open as HMV.

Virgin Entertainment Group has decided to withdraw from the Canadian marketplace to enable resources to be fully focused on its retail business in the United States. As a result, Virgin’s sole Canadian Virgin Megastore, a 40,000 square foot, three-level outlet located in downtown Vancouver, will cease from
trading under the Virgin brand name Sept. 4, 2005. It will re-open that day as an HMV Canada store.

Employees of the Vancouver Virgin Megastore are being offered employment with HMV.

The store is located on the corner of Robson Street and Burrard Street in central Vancouver, the city’s busiest and most prestigious retail destination. HMV already operates 8 stores in the greater Vancouver area, and has a further two stores opening in nearby Burnaby this summer.

"Vancouver is a key market for HMV," says HumphreyKadaner, President of the 102-store HMV Canada chain.. "Not only is it Canada’s third largest city, but Vancouver also has a great music and movies tradition, making it a fitting location to open HMV Canada’s biggest store to date."
