HMV Group plc today (July 26) said that its non-executive chairman Sir Robin Miller was resigning to focus on other business interests. Miller, who took that role Feb. 2, 2004, will exit the market-leading retailer's board with effect from Thursday (July 28).

David Kappler, a non-executive director at HMV, will replace Miller on an interim basis until a permanent successor is hired, HMV said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange.

HMV had appointed Miller non-executive director and chairman last year to succeed EMI Group chairman Eric Nicoli. Prior to that, Miller held roles as CEO and non-executive chairman at U.K.-based magazines publisher Emap. He currently holds various board-level functions, including the post as chairman of British music publisher Boosey & Hawkes.

Kappler was appointed to the HMV Group Board as a non-executive director on April 23, 2002. Until April 2004, he was CFO of confectionary group Cadbury Schweppes plc.
