Nek, Pausini and Powter top the awards list.
Nek (Warner Music Italy) was the overall winner at this year's Festivalbar, which concluded in the Roman Arena in Verona, Italy on Sept. 13.
Laura Pausini, another Warner artist, won the Best Tour award and Daniel Powter, also on Warner, was named Best Foreign Act. Jovanotti (Universal) clinched the award for Best Performance, while the group Negramaro (Sugar) won the Best New Act.
The festival, which was first staged in 1964, was originally intended to establish the Italian hit single of the summer. Votes were first registered by the number of plays they received on jukeboxes throughout the country.
Today, the system is based on the number of streamings at the Festival's official website. Nek's single, Lascia che io sia ("Let Me Be") was voted the Italian summer hit of 2005.
Each year, the summer-long festival is held in different cities, although the final night is traditionally held in Verona. Other locations in 2005 included Turin, Viterbo and Arezzo. The final night in Verona was broadcast live on the Silvio Berlusconi-owned station, Italia Uno, while the other shows were given a delayed broadcast on the same channel.
