Releases for PlayStation Portable.
Sony BMG Music Entertainment is planning to release at least eight Universal Media Disc (UMD) titles for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) by the end of the year. Slated for distribution are music video compilations from Usher, Outkast, and The Offspring, and live concerts from Coheed and Cambria, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Good Charlotte, and Iron Maiden.
Outkast, “The Videos” (LaFace); Coheed and Cambria, “Live at the Starland Ballroom” (Columbia) and The Offspring, “The Complete Music Video Collection” (Columbia) will all street on Nov. 8, followed by Foo Fighters, “Live - Everywhere But Home” (RCA), Usher, “Rhythm City Vol. 1.” (LaFace) and Audioslave, “Live In Cuba” (Epic) on Dec. 5.
Release dates for Good Charlotte, “Live at Brixton Academy” (Epic) and Iron Maiden, “Rock in Rio” (Columbia) are yet to be determined.
The offerings represent the major label’s first foray into the PSP format. However movie studios and DVD-oriented entertainment companies are already releasing titles on UMD.
Over 86 UMD titles, including films, music concerts and TV-derived programming, are expected in stores by year's end, according to a forecast earlier this year from the DVD Release Report.
