New strategy to diversify income stream.

EMI Music Publishing U.K. has elevated Jonathan Channon to the new position of senior VP of media and business development, effective immediately. Channon was senior VP of film, TV and media.

In his new role, he will "market the company's extensive catalogue of properties through business opportunities in broadcast and films, branding and advertising, and new media and merchandising," according to a company statement.

The creation of this new position is part of the reorganization of the company engineered since June by EMI Music Publishing U.K. MD Guy Moot, to whom Channon reports.

"Jonathan's promotion recognizes the way in which his department has successfully opened up the exploitation of ancilliary rights in areas such as broadcast, film and mobile -- to cite a few -- and I want him to direct our strategy in these areas moving forward," said Guy Moot.

Moot added that Channon's brief was to develop "opportunities to diversify our income stream, including looking at ways to market the lyric in a non-traditional form, as a separate entity from the song."

Moot also announced the appointment of Melanie Johnson as promotions manager. She joins from Sony BMG and will be in charge of growing "the company's broadening business base" through brands, media companies, advertising agencies, games platforms, among others.

Johnson joins an eight-strong team, all of whom report to Channon.
