Sources: 150 to go in N.Y., London.
MTV Networks International confirmed today (Dec. 19) it has taken steps to streamline its corporate headcount in New York and London.
In an internal message, seen by Billboard.biz, the music TV broadcaster says its has proposed changes to the organization that "may unfortunately lead to redundancies of some of our valued colleagues." Sources say approximately 150 corporate positions in total may be affected, with the majority of those cuts in London.
In compliance with British employment laws, the network has begun a consultation process with those potentially affected. The procedure is expected to conclude in March 2006. A spokesperson says no decisions have been made on individuals or departmental structures.
In its memo, MTV says the staff cull is a necessary process as the company looks to expand its empire. "The continued expansion of our localized operations around the world and our evolution to diversified multi-brand, multimedia portfolios requires a shift in our corporate structure to optimally position the company for its next stage of growth."
