Peaks on Hot Latin Songs, Mainstream Top 40.

“Hips Don’t Lie,” the new single by Shakira with Wyclef Jean, has simultaneously shimmied its way to the No. 1 spot on the Hot Latin Songs and Hot 100 Airplay chart this week. Although another Latin act, Ricky Martin, had previously topped both these charts simultaneously (with “Livin’ La Vida Loca”), Shakira is the first artist to climb to No. 1 simultaneously on both in the same week, and is the first female artist to top both charts with the same song.

“Hips Don’t Lie” is being used to drive sales of “Oral Fixation, Vol. 2,” which was originally released late last year on Epic and did not include “Hips Don’t Lie.” A new version of the album, which includes “Hips Don’t Lie,” is now in stores.

In Latin America, the new “Oral Fixation, Vol 2” includes versions of “Hips Don’t Lie” in both English and Spanish. Although most stations are playing the English version of the song, Shakira performed her Spanish version at the Billboard Latin Music awards.
