Major licenses catalog to peer-to-peer service.

EMI Music has agreed to license its North American catalog to peer-to-peer service Mashboxx, run by former Grokster chief Wayne Rosso.

Mashboxx features a "try before you buy" a la carte option that allows users to download and listen to a song for up to five times at no charge before being prompted to buy the track.

The service remains in an invitation-only beta testing stage. With the addition of EMI, the service is expected to broaden the beta to a public test soon.
