Taiwanese vocalist Jay Chou was named best Asian artist at the eighth annual CCTV/MTV Music Awards, held at the Beijing Exhibition Centre Auditorium on Oct. 12. Chou, who is signed to Sony BMG Music Entertainment Hong Kong, also performed at the awards ceremony.

Hong Kong musician, composer and producer Chris Babida -- who is widely considered the "Godfather of crossover music" in Asia -- was recognized with a special contribution award.

Best mainland Chinese male artist went to veteran crooner Man Wenjun while female honors went to Chen Ming.

The most popular male and female mainland artist awards went respectively to Lin Yilun and Jin Haixin. Actress Han Xue was awarded best new artist, and best folk artist went to Chen Sisi, who also won the category in 2004.

For Hong Kong, the most popular accolades went to Eason Chan and Joey Yung. Best group went to popular girl duo Twins and best new artist was Justin Lo.

The most popular Taiwanese male and female artists were JJ Lin and Angela Cheung; best group went to South Fist Mother; and Kenji Wu was named best new artist.
