Syndicated radio talk show host Renan Almendarez Coello turned himself in to Los Angeles police Jan. 3. He was under investigation for alleged criminal threats toward his wife and a police officer on New Year's Day, according to the LAPD.

Almendarez, whose highly-rated "El Cucuy de la Manana" program is broadcast nationally from Spanish Broadcasting System's 97.9 La Raza station in Los Angeles, was released on $50,000 bail after agreeing to provide a statement to investigators through his lawyer, police said.

The arrest stemmed from a dispute at Almendarez' home in which police said traces of blood were found. The radio host's son had intervened in the dispute, in which Almendarez' wife was not injured, police said.

SBS would not comment on the matter. Almendarez, who has been on vacation, is scheduled to resume broadcasting next week, with "Best Of" episodes of his program airing in the meantime.
