Mobile entertainment technologies and services constituted $4.2 billion of the $16.3 billion mobile content market in 2006, according to research firm iSuppli, and are poised to grow to $7.4 billion of a $35 billion mobile content market by 2011.

Personalization applications like ringtones and wallpaper graphics were the early driver of this market, but driving this next stage will be entertainment applications like full-song downloads and video, the company continues.

By 2011, images will fall to fourth place in terms of mobile content consumed, while over-the-air downloads, mobile games and video are expected to dominate. Content providers' share of the market will exceed $19 billion, with half of that coming from music categories, iSuppli says.
