Pop star Paulina Rubio will kick off the first U.S. leg of her "Amor, Luz y Sonido" ("Love, Light and Sound") tour May 17 at Houston's Escapade club.

The tour is Rubio's most extensive stateside trek to date, with 27 shows over seven weeks in its first outing. The mostly theater and casino dates include stops in the Southwest and the East Coast, including New York's Beacon Theatre and Los Angeles' Gibson Amphitheatre. More dates are expected to be announced.

The first U.S. leg ends at the El Paso Coliseum July 8. Rubio will return to the U.S. in September after touring internationally. "Ananda," Rubio's latest album on Universal Latino, has sold over 600,000 units worldwide, according to the label.

Rubio is a finalist in two categories at this year's Billboard Latin Music Awards, to be held in Miami April 26.
