In an event that had industry heads literally dancing between the aisles, Dominican innovator Juan Luis Guerra was feted last night (Nov. 7) in Las Vegas as the Latin Recording Academy's person of the year.

Guerra's album "La Llave de Mi Corazón" (Emi/Televisa) and its title track are up for multiple Latin Grammys, including album, record and song of the year.

High points during Guerra's homage included performances by Puerto Rican superstar Ricky Martin, soulful Argentine singer Diego Torres and dynamic Brazilian singer/dancer Daniela Mercury. All performed alongside Guerra's 10-plus backing band, 440. Most of the troupe has been with Guerra for years.

Singer/actor-turned-politician Ruben Blades spoke about Guerra's altruistic endeavors, as well as his musical career. In the end, Guerra himself performed two songs, including "La Llave de Mi Corazón."
