Guitar Hero III is more than just a licensing juggernaut for the music industry. It also promotes sales, according to Soundscan figures reported by blog Ars Technica. Certain tracks included in the game have seen a healthy sales spike since its release.

Ars reported that the song "Reptilia" by The Strokes sold 127% more digital copies the week the game was released than it did the previous week, and sold another 96% more the following week.

Slipknot's "Before I Forget" saw a similar jump, at 75% the week of the game's release and 140% the week after.
